Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma summoned by NCIC over inflammatory remarks

The summons, signed by Commission Secretary and CEO Dr. Daniel Mutegi Giti, cited Sections 27, 29, and 63C of the National Cohesion and Integration Act, referencing statements made by the MP around August 15 in Homa Bay county. The quoted speech in the summons included instructions to youths regarding individuals perceived to be working with opposition formations, references to inspecting hotels and houses, warnings about a "one-term deal," and declarations about an ODM stronghold. The summons carried a penal notice, warning that failure to appear would result in a warrant of arrest being issued against the legislator.

This action follows violence during the Linda Mwananchi tour in Homa Bay county on August 16, where supporters associated with Kaluma reportedly clashed with teams accompanying the tour, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Governor James Orengo, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. Roads were blocked, and stones were thrown at the convoy, resulting in injuries and deaths. Kaluma had publicly warned the delegation against using infrastructure projects associated with President William Ruto's administration and later attributed responsibility for the violence to the visiting team.
