Windhoek City Council withdraws all land applications amid opposition to president Nandi-Ndaitwah's private land request
The City of Windhoek has withdrawn all land applications from its agenda following significant opposition regarding president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah鈥檚 private request to purchase municipal land in Auasblick. Opposition councillors questioned why the president's application was being handled differently from other private land applications, which are typically subject to public discussion. Affirmative Repositioning councillor Maitjituavi Kavetu challenged the exclusion of the president's application from public consideration, arguing that the size of the land, approximately 1.8 hectares across six erven, did not justify privacy. The application, submitted in May, was Nandi-Ndaitwah鈥檚 second attempt within a month to acquire the land. Independent Patriots for Change councillor Werner-Meck Tjihuiko raised concerns about a special council meeting where the application was discussed behind closed doors, citing inconsistencies with the Local Authorities Act of 1992, which he stated requires public discussion for land applications. Councillor Ndeshihafela Larandja proposed withdrawing all land applications until legal interpretations surrounding the president's request were resolved.
