New film captures life and legacy of Bience Gawanas
Filmmaker Othilia Mungoba has launched her latest project, 'The Encapsulation of Bience Gawanas', an audio-visual portrait dedicated to one of Namibia’s figures. The film highlights Bience Gawanas's contributions to Namibia's liberation, development, and national legacy. The premiere screening of 'The Encapsulation of Bience Gawanas' is scheduled for August 28 in Windhoek and will include a live question-and-answer session with Bience Gawanas. Mungoba describes the film as a meditation on identity, justice, womanhood, and service, aiming to connect audiences with the person behind public titles. The film visually blends intimate sit-down interviews with pictorial portraiture, incorporating personal ornaments, photographs, music, singing, and archival material to present Gawanas as an advocate for social justice, honoring her personal memories and convictions.
