
Khomas100 gravel cycling event to feature record international field
The 2026 Khomas100, a major gravel cycling event in Namibia, is set to host over 400 cyclists from 14 countries this Saturday, August 22. This year, the event holds significant international importance as it includes both the CAC African Continental Gravel Championships and a round of the UCI Gravel World Series, offering elite and age-group riders a chance to qualify for the UCI Gravel World Championships. Approximately 140 riders are registered for the long-distance race, 200 for the 84km race, and 70 for the 44km event. South Africa leads the international contingent with 70 riders. The elite field includes defending women鈥檚 African Gravel Champion Hayley Preen of South Africa, who is also the 2026 South African Gravel Champion. Namibian contenders include Anri Greeff, the 2026 Namibian Gravel champion, and former Olympian Vera Looser. In the men鈥檚 race, defending African Gravel champion and Namibian Olympian Alex Miller returns, facing strong competition from South African riders like Travis Stedman and Marco Joubert. The long-distance race will take riders from Windhoek through Namibia鈥檚 gravel terrain, finishing at the NWR Gross Barmen Resort. Race director Johan Pretorius highlighted the event's growth and the quality of its international field, emphasizing its role in showcasing Namibia as a premier gravel cycling destination. Hollard Namibia is the principal sponsor, with additional support from DHL, NWR, and Standard Bank Namibia.
