Gomoa Central MP A-Plus threatens closure of Effutu North District Police Station over land dispute

This threat follows deadly clashes stemming from a longstanding land dispute in the Central Region. Speaking on Neat FM, the MP asserted that the police station is located on land that, according to a Lands Commission report, falls within Gomoa's traditional and administrative boundaries. A-Plus explained that he petitioned the Lands Commission for a report on the boundaries between Gomoa Central and Effutu after becoming concerned about the dispute.

He claims the report confirmed the police station's location deep within Gomoa land. He subsequently informed the Ministry of the Interior about this, arguing that an Effutu-associated police facility in Gomoa territory could escalate tensions. A-Plus plans to lead another demonstration, noting that a previous one lacked a permit, which he believes contributed to the lack of police protection and the situation's escalation.

He also alleged that police killed two people and injured 19 during the violent clash, claiming officers used live ammunition. The police, however, reported three deaths and 15 to 17 injuries. Following the clashes, police have deployed additional personnel, mounted checkpoints, and intensified patrols, with several arrests made as investigations continue.
