Gobabis police station inmates allegedly assaulted after raising concerns about cell conditions

Community activist Jeraldo Eiseb stated that the inmates only inquired about cell conditions and restrictions on phone calls. Eiseb reported that three inmates sustained severe injuries during the alleged assaults and remain in police cells, emphasizing that their complaints were valid and should have been addressed without violence. Nadia Tjitura, a Gobabis resident, identified her brother, Dawid Tjitura 25, as one of the alleged victims.

Dawid, arrested in June for domestic violence, has a medical condition affecting his testicles and has reportedly not received medical attention for nearly a month despite his complaints. Tjitura expressed concern that the inmates' injuries could worsen without medical care, noting that her brother informed her that over 12 inmates were assaulted. She urged the police to ensure the injured inmates receive medical attention.

Questions sent to Omaheke regional commander Heinrich Tjiveze on Tuesday remained unanswered.
