The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association GRNMA has cautioned nurses and midwives against using unlicensed recruitment agencies for overseas employment. According to a report, over 10,000 Ghanaian nurses and midwives emigrated in 2025, with 200 to 400 leaving monthly, and approximately 1,000 departing between January and August 2026. GRNMA President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo highlighted the significant pressure this migration places on Ghana's health system, leading to increased workloads and burnout for remaining professionals, ultimately affecting patient care. The Association advocates for greater transparency in bilateral recruitment agreements between Ghana and other countries, suggesting these agreements should be publicly accessible. Ofori-Ampofo urged nurses and midwives to verify recruitment agencies with the GRNMA before engaging their services. The GRNMA also noted that over 80,000 nurses and midwives are awaiting posting and has appealed to the Ministry of Finance to release financial clearance for their deployment. The Association believes addressing this backlog and improving working conditions could alleviate pressure on the health system and reduce the loss of skilled professionals to foreign opportunities.

Bawumia leads potential NDC presidential contenders in new nationwide poll

Haruna Iddrisu 45.9% to 41.5%, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang 47.4% to 40.2%, Dr. Julius Debrah 48.4% to 37.9%, Hon. Eric Opoku 49.8% to 33.9%, and Prof. Joshua Alabi 49.9% to 34.4%. Undecided voters ranged from 7.2 percent to 9.3 percent. The survey also found Dr. Bawumia winning between nine and eleven of Ghana’s sixteen regions in every tested matchup. The report emphasizes that these findings reflect public opinion at the time of the survey and should not be considered a prediction of future electoral outcomes.
