
Ghanaian voters to prioritize character, job creation, and cost of living in 2028 election
A recent nationwide survey by Africa Policy Lens, conducted from July 27 to August 7, 2026, among 16,963 respondents, indicates that Ghanaian voters will prioritize personal character, job creation, and the economy's impact on the cost of living when selecting their next President in the 2028 general elections. Honesty and integrity were identified as the most crucial leadership quality, followed by the ability to create jobs and economic management. The survey also tested Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia against seven potential NDC candidates, showing him leading in all matchups. He scored 45.8 percent against Johnson Asiedu Nketia, 45.7 percent against Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, 45.9 percent against Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, 47.4 percent against Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and 48.4 percent against Dr. Julius Debrah. The NPP Presidential Candidate achieved his highest results against Eric Opoku with 49.8 percent and Prof. Joshua Alabi with 49.9 percent. In these matchups, 7 to 9 percent of voters remained undecided. The report concludes that ethical leadership and economic performance will be central to the 2028 electoral contest.
