Ghana YMCA wins Global Impact Award for youth empowerment program
Ghana YMCA received the 2026 World YMCA Impact Award in the Meaningful Work category at the 21st World YMCA Council in Toronto, Canada. The award recognizes their Resilient Africa: Training in Filmmaking and Media for Peace initiative, which equips young people with filmmaking, digital storytelling, and media production skills while promoting peacebuilding and sustainable livelihoods. This program has enabled thousands of young people to gain industry-relevant skills, fostering employment, entrepreneurship, and social impact within the creative economy. Ghana YMCA was selected from 70 project submissions globally, beating finalists from Scotland, Sierra Leone, and East Jerusalem. The organization acknowledged the support of its development partner, Bread for the World, and the dedication of its facilitators, volunteers, and community partners. This recognition highlights Ghana YMCA's role in youth development and its commitment to empowering young people to become entrepreneurs, peacebuilders, and community leaders, demonstrating the global impact of locally designed solutions.
