Ashanti Regional Minister calls for continuity in governance to advance Ghana's development
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, advocated for greater continuity in governance, stating that Ghana's development should not restart with every change of government. Speaking at the commissioning of the new Ashanti Regional Office of the Minerals Commission in Kumasi, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that successive administrations should complete and sustain projects initiated by their predecessors, regardless of political affiliation. He noted that Ghana's development challenges often stem from the failure to maintain projects and institutions beyond political transitions, rather than a lack of ideas or resources. The regional minister highlighted that public projects like hospitals, schools, and roads should not be abandoned due to a change in administration, stressing that continuity protects public investments and strengthens institutions. He commended President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to completing legacy projects, citing the directive to reserve 20 percent of Common Fund monies for this purpose. Dr. Amoakohene also praised the Minerals Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for completing the regional office despite funding challenges, calling it an example of continuity in governance. He urged the Minerals Commission to prioritize maintenance of the new facility, emphasizing that public infrastructure requires collective responsibility for its protection.
