National Security reveals vigilante groups rebranding and moving operations online
National Security Coordinator COP Osman Abdul Razak has disclosed that some vigilante groups are altering their names and shifting their activities to online platforms to evade detection by security agencies. These groups are now operating under names such as internal security teams, volunteer task forces, and community security initiatives, or have fragmented into smaller, less traceable networks. COP Abdul Razak stated that security agencies are monitoring these groups' activities on social media, where they are believed to be organizing and communicating. He noted that mobilization has transitioned from physical gatherings to online platforms, encrypted chats, and other informal channels. The National Security Coordinator cautioned against mistaking the reduced visibility of these groups for their complete eradication, emphasizing that a vigilante group remains a vigilante group regardless of its name or public presentation.
