Premature ejaculation does not impact male fertility, says Obstetrician-Gynaecologist Dr Padi Ayertey
Obstetrician-Gynaecologist Dr Padi Ayertey clarified that premature ejaculation does not affect a man’s fertility, provided that sperm is released appropriately and is of good quality. Speaking on TV3 on August 14, 2026, Dr Ayertey explained that the timing of ejaculation and a man’s ability to father a child are distinct issues. He emphasized that premature ejaculation primarily relates to sexual satisfaction rather than fertility. He stated that even if a man ejaculates within 30 seconds or two minutes, he can still father a child if ejaculation occurs at the appropriate point and the sperm is healthy. Dr Ayertey noted that once sperm is released, it can travel through the female reproductive tract to potentially fertilize an egg. He distinguished premature ejaculation from male infertility, asserting that the former does not automatically indicate a problem with a man’s reproductive ability. For male fertility, factors such as sperm quality and the successful release of sperm into the female reproductive tract are more directly relevant to conception than the speed of ejaculation.
