Adomako-Mensah demands answers over recent blackouts
Collins Adomako-Mensah, Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Energy Committee, has called for the Ghana Grid Company Limited GRIDCo and the Minister of Energy to appear before Parliament to explain the recurring power outages across the country. Adomako-Mensah stated that the frequent blackouts are a serious concern and require clear answers from the agencies responsible for Ghana’s power transmission system. He hopes that as Parliament reconvenes, GRIDCo and the Minister will be called before the Energy Committee to address the issues. He noted that while power was quickly restored after recent incidents, the repeated disruptions indicate a need for Parliament to investigate the national power system. Adomako-Mensah also revealed that the Energy Committee has not yet received the report on an earlier power system incident, despite GRIDCo stating it was submitted to the Minister of Energy. He explained that the committee has only seen commentaries on social media and news platforms, making it difficult to assess the findings. He stressed the urgency of the matter following a widespread blackout on August 20, 2026, which was the second major disruption within a month, affecting several parts of the country. He urged the Energy Committee to invite GRIDCo and the energy minister for a comprehensive explanation and to outline preventative measures.
