Ghana will not be a transit point for illicit drugs, says NACOC Deputy Director

This declaration addresses claims by suspected drug traffickers that narcotics intercepted in Ghana were intended for destinations like Niger and Burkina Faso. Barimah Twum emphasized that while Ghana's borders are open for legitimate trade, they will not facilitate the movement of illegal substances. He noted that individuals arrested for drug trafficking often claim the narcotics were not for the Ghanaian market.

To combat cross-border trafficking, Ghana recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Burkina Faso to prevent the movement of illicit drugs between the two nations. Barimah Twum urged the public to provide credible information to security agencies to help combat drug trafficking.
