Ghana Parliament to scrutinize GoldBod's $1.7 billion financial impact
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has stated that Parliament will examine the reported $1.7 billion financial impact related to the Ghana Gold Board GoldBod to determine if it is a loss or a cost under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme DGPP. Bagbin, speaking on August 24, 2026, confirmed he would admit a motion filed by the Minority for parliamentary scrutiny. The Minority claims an International Monetary Fund assessment indicates losses exceeding $1.7 billion in 2025 from the DGPP. GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi disputes this, asserting the program has generated profits. Bagbin noted that Parliament's review of the motion would allow for an examination of these differing claims, though the debate will not occur during the current emergency sitting.
