Seven feared dead in Asaman Tamfoe galamsey pit collapse
Seven people are reportedly feared dead after a galamsey pit collapsed overnight at Asaman Tamfoe near Anyinam in the Eastern Region. The victims were allegedly engaged in illegal mining when the pit caved in, trapping them underground. Rescue efforts are currently underway, with a video shared by media personality Johnnie Hughes on X showing a heavy-duty excavator and several people attempting to rescue those trapped. Rescuers were seen struggling to free one victim from under thick sand. The identities of the victims and the exact cause of the collapse have not yet been established.
