Ghana Gold Board refutes claims of GH¢200 million loss and CEO's bodyguard absconding with funds

In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, GoldBod labeled the news as "entirely false, malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public." The Board also refuted claims that Dominic Bonsu was a former bodyguard or personal security officer to the GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, stating no such relationship ever existed. GoldBod further denied losing or advancing GH¢200 million or any amount to Bonsu or his company.

The Board clarified that Dominic Bonsu Ventures' license was suspended due to suspected breaches of its terms and conditions and violations of GoldBod trading directives. Following investigations and enforcement action, Bonsu was arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where legal proceedings are ongoing. GoldBod expressed concern over what it described as a deliberate attempt to distort an ongoing enforcement process, misinform the public, and undermine confidence in its operations.

It urged the public to disregard the social media claims and rely only on official communication channels, appealing to media organizations, bloggers, and social media users to verify information before publication. GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing laws in Ghana's gold trading sector fairly and professionally.
