Gabon's SEEG gradually regains control after cyberattack crippled 95% of its systems

Described as an "act of sabotage" by the company, the incident caused the "collapse of nearly 95% of its IT infrastructure and systems," particularly paralyzing the EDAN unit sales platform essential for prepaid meters. The company attributed the event to "unidentified individuals." In response, SEEG activated a crisis unit to restore critical services and minimize subscriber impact.

The immediate priority was to reactivate the EDAN unit supply system. A team of twenty IT engineers, cybersecurity experts, and technicians worked for 48 uninterrupted hours to rebuild the software for recharges via Airtel Money, Moov Money, and BGFI Mobile services, successfully restoring these operations. Subsequently, technical teams reconstructed the central software interconnecting all of the company's business applications, progressively restoring main commercial services.

Customers can now obtain bills and make payments at Grand-Libreville agencies and authorized resellers. Critical applications are operational in Franceville, Moanda, Akiéni, Mounana, Mouila, Port-Gentil, and Lastoursville, with restoration ongoing in other centers. Nearly two months after the attack, SEEG reports favorable progress, stating that the "return to normal traffic and digital services is gradually resuming."
