Gabon's population officially exceeds 3 million, reaching 3,518,621 inhabitants
Gabon's population has officially reached 3,518,621 inhabitants, a figure proclaimed on August 27, 2026, by the President of the Constitutional Court, Dieudonné Aba’a Owono. This announcement followed a plenary session dedicated to validating the results of the General Population and Housing Census RGPL. This new demographic snapshot definitively places the country above the symbolic threshold of 3 million inhabitants, after years of estimates ranging between 1.7 and 2.1 million. The proclamation occurred after a verification and validation process of data from the census operation launched earlier this year across the national territory. This new figure represents a major shift in understanding Gabon's population, providing an updated demographic base for public policies in areas such as education, health, housing, employment, spatial planning, and infrastructure. The Estuaire province remains the most populated, with 2,184,908 inhabitants 1,125,301 men and 1,059,607 women, highlighting its significant role in the country's territorial organization, as it hosts Libreville, the main administrative, economic, and urban hub. Other provinces include Haut-Ogooué with 297,100 inhabitants, Ogooué-Maritime with 292,652, Woleu-Ntem with 242,029, Ngounié with 159,404, Moyen-Ogooué with 105,703, Ogooué-Ivindo with 93,482, Ogooué-Lolo with 75,128, and Nyanga with 68,215.
