
Gabon strengthens regional commitment at AFI Aviation Week 2026
The National Civil Aviation Agency of Gabon ANAC-Gabon participated in the 11th edition of AFI Aviation Week, held from July 27 to 31 in Cairo, Egypt. This event brought together key African civil aviation stakeholders to address challenges in safety, security, facilitation, and sustainable development of air transport on the continent. Organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO and the African Civil Aviation Commission AFCAC, the meeting serves as a primary platform for exchanges in the Africa-Indian Ocean region. Gabon's delegation was led by Camille Makoumbou, Deputy Director General of ANAC-Gabon, and included representatives from various national administrations involved in air transport, such as the National Office for Airport Security and Facilitation of Gabon ONSFAG, the Directorate General of Documentation and Immigration DGDI, Fly Gabon Holding, the Bureau of Investigations into Aviation Incidents and Accidents BEIAA, and the Directorate General of Customs and Indirect Duties. This broad representation highlights Gabon's interinstitutional approach to civil aviation policies. Discussions at the event focused on the performance of the AFI region, strengthening the global aeronautical safety system in distress situations, updating ICAO standards and recommended practices, and deploying API/PNR systems to improve passenger flow management and border security.
