Gabon Biodiversity Fund implements new monitoring and evaluation framework to measure impact of investments

This initiative aims to enhance transparency in financial management and precisely measure the results of conservation efforts on the ground. The FPBG seeks to understand not only the amount invested in preserving Gabon's natural heritage but also the concrete changes these investments produce in ecosystems and for populations. The framework is designed to improve the steering of interventions amidst increasing pressures on terrestrial, marine, and freshwater ecosystems.

Public administrations, technical partners, civil society organizations, communities, cooperatives, the private sector, and academia were invited to provide feedback to ensure the framework is adapted to local realities. Yasmine Tchoua, Director General of the FPBG, emphasized that biodiversity preservation requires collective mobilization and transparent, sustainable financing mechanisms that can demonstrate results. She highlighted the need to measure changes, affected ecosystems, beneficiary populations, and the effectiveness and sustainability of actions.

The new framework will serve as a management tool to track progress, identify risks, improve interventions, account for resource use, and learn from funded projects. It includes an integrated organizational structure covering internal processes, grant allocation and monitoring, data quality, evaluations, dashboar
