Ousmane Sonko undertakes religious pilgrimage to Thiès, Ndiassane, and Tivaouane ahead of Gamou
Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, is scheduled to visit Thiès, Ndiassane, and Tivaouane for a ziarra, a religious pilgrimage. This visit highlights the traditional ties between Senegalese political authorities and religious institutions as the Gamou celebration approaches. Sonko will first go to Thiès, where he will be received by the Ndieguène family, before continuing to Ndiassane and concluding his journey in Tivaouane, the center of Mawlid celebrations. During this ziarra, Ousmane Sonko will meet with various religious authorities, including the general caliphs Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour and Serigne Sidy Mactar Kounta. This visit is part of a long-standing tradition in Senegal, where political leaders pay courtesy visits to religious guides during major celebrations, demonstrating respect for religious institutions and the importance of dialogue between political power and spiritual communities.
