
BRVM stock market capitalization reaches historic high of over 20,000 billion FCFA
The Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières BRVM has achieved a historic milestone, with its stock market capitalization surpassing 20,000 billion FCFA. This record was announced on Saturday, August 22, 2026. This achievement follows a period of strong performance for the BRVM, including over 12 billion FCFA in transactions and rising indices during the week of August 10-14, 2026. The BRVM also presented a positive report for the week of August 3-6, 2026. Earlier in the year, the BRVM saw a 40% increase, with the UEMOA finance sector performing strongly. The stock exchange has consistently shown good health with upward trending indices, driven by the banking sector and a surge in cocoa prices. In other related news, the BRVM successfully conducted a business continuity exercise using its IT backup site on July 3, 2026. The exchange also admitted three bond issues from Burkina Faso totaling over 131 billion FCFA on March 12, 2026, and two bond issues from Senegal in December 2025. In July 2025, Senegal raised 416 billion FCFA through a record bond operation. Africa50 and the BRVM also partnered in May 2025 to boost infrastructure financing in West Africa. Cotonou hosted the 6th edition of the BRVM Awards in April 2025.
