Former Deputy Finance Minister calls for probe into alleged $1.7 billion Domestic Gold Purchase Programme loss

This call follows reports that the International Monetary Fund IMF estimated losses from the program at US$1.7 billion. Osei-Asare highlighted that this alleged loss represents a significant amount of resources that could have been allocated to vital sectors like healthcare, citing the Minister of Health's need for GH¢6 billion to recruit nurses. She questioned the disparity between the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 financial statement, which reported a US$214 million loss, and the IMF’s Article IV consultation, which indicated a US$1.7 billion loss.

Osei-Asare also called on the accounting firm that audited the Bank of Ghana to clarify the US$1.4 billion difference. She emphasized the need for transparency and parliamentary oversight of the gold program, demanding accountability from public officials.
