
Ababacar Diagne resigns from Pastef, joins Kiiraay in Kaolack
Ababacar Diagne, former deputy coordinator of Pastef in Kaolack, announced his resignation from the party on Sunday, August 23, 2026. After several years of involvement with the political party led by Ousmane Sonko, Diagne stated his decision was due to a lack of recognition and unanswered requests. He joined Pastef in 2016, holding roles such as cell leader, deputy party coordinator, and departmental youth leader. Diagne also claims a role in the political efforts leading to the 2024 transition, including coordinating the 111 list sponsorship and organizing the Diomaye president coalition in Kaolack during the 2024 presidential election. He expressed frustration that his years of activism and responsibilities were not adequately recognized by the party leadership, lamenting, "Not an ounce of recognition came to repair the wear and tear of time and sacrifices." Diagne also stated that he sent several letters to the party president requesting support to strengthen his local political base, but received no response. The former Pastef official announced his allegiance to Kiiraay, the Republican Patriots, which he describes as a continuation of his ideal of service to the Nation. He affirmed that his departure is not a renunciation of his convictions but a new stage in his political commitment, guided by "absolute fidelity" to the ideal of serving Senegal.
