Algeria plans 20,000 investment projects by 2029, government unveils strategy
The Algerian government has announced an ambitious plan to implement 20,000 investment projects by 2029. This initiative follows a comprehensive census of available economic land across the country. During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, five strategic axes were established to unlock previously inaccessible land and streamline investor access. The primary goal is to transform these areas into economic opportunities. The meeting, held via videoconference on Monday, August 17, with walis, also addressed preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year, including school transport and canteen provisions. The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Minister of National Education participated in the discussions. The plan for 20,000 investment projects by 2029 is part of a roadmap to encourage investment, focusing on the inventory and regularization of economic land to create a national portfolio of mobilizable economic land. The five strategic axes for implementation include completing the national census of economic land, digitizing land governance, legal regularization and recovery of land, developing economic land and connecting it to various networks, and strengthening governance, steering, and intersectoral coordination. These axes are supported by a timeline and performance indicators.
