Gombe State University ASUU suspends planned strike, sets October 2026 deadline for agreement implementation
The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, Gombe State University branch, has suspended its planned total and indefinite strike. This decision followed a congress meeting on Friday, August 21, 2026, where the union considered a letter from the Gombe State Government regarding the implementation of a new salary scale for academic staff. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding with the university management on outstanding arrears for members' entitlements was discussed. The resolution, signed by branch chairperson Mustapha Muhammad and secretary Aliyu Shelleng, grants the government and university management until October 2026 to fulfill these agreements. The union emphasized that the suspension is conditional and warned that the strike would resume if the agreements are not implemented within the specified timeframe.
