Fire guts SPAR Mall in Calabar, Cross River State

Videos circulating on social media showed thick black smoke and intense flames engulfing the facility. Onlookers and shop owners gathered outside, expressing frustration over what they perceived as a delayed emergency response, with some lamenting the lack of fire services and the destruction of goods worth millions of naira. Later footage, however, depicted a fire truck and police personnel arriving at the scene to manage the crowd and combat the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined. As of the report's filing, neither the Cross River State Government nor local emergency management authorities had released an official statement regarding casualties, structural damage, or the extent of financial losses.
