Finance minister Shafudah urges state-owned enterprises to end reliance on state funds

Speaking at a breakfast event in Windhoek with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and public enterprise chief executives, Shafudah emphasized that SOEs should prioritize achieving the goals of the sixth National Development Plan. She dismissed the notion of inadequate financial assistance, stating that a world with endless financial aid does not exist. Shafudah urged SOEs to conduct a trend analysis of government contributions, noting that some receive over N$1 billion.

She asserted that the narrative of limited funding must end, and SOEs should focus on improving the management of public financial resources. Namibia Ports Authority chief executive Andrew Kanime supported this view during a panel discussion, encouraging SOEs to seek private sector partnerships for financial sustainability beyond government funding.
