Senegal's National Assembly opens extraordinary session, defers seven presidential bills
The National Assembly of Senegal, led by its president Ousmane Sonko, opened its first extraordinary session yesterday, following a bureau convocation dated August 6. During the session, Sonko informed colleagues about receiving seven draft bills from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. These bills included authorizing the President to ratify the Marrakesh Treaty for visually impaired persons, protocols amending articles 50 and 56 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, a military and technical cooperation agreement with the Republic of Congo, extradition and prisoner transfer conventions with the United Arab Emirates, and mutual legal assistance treaties in criminal matters with both the United Arab Emirates and Italy. However, these seven presidential initiatives will not be on the agenda for this extraordinary session. Sonko stated that these items would be scheduled for future extraordinary sessions or the upcoming ordinary session. For the current session, the National Assembly bureau has prioritized three draft bills and eight proposed bills. The agenda includes a draft Labor Code, a draft Social Security Code, and draft bills on critical information infrastructure protection and digital security.
