Dangote refinery expands free fuel delivery to four additional Nigerian states
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has extended its free petroleum product delivery service to Kano, Imo, Anambra, and Nasarawa states. This initiative aims to reduce distribution costs for independent petroleum marketers and potentially lead to lower petrol prices. Previously, the service covered Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna, Abuja, and Delta states. The refinery absorbs delivery costs to eliminate the expense of transporting products over long distances, thereby reducing a major cost in the downstream petroleum distribution chain. Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director, Commercial Operations, Oil & Gas, WAEP and Fertiliser, Dangote Industries Limited, stated that the goal is to make fuel distribution more efficient, cut avoidable costs, and support competitive pump prices across Nigeria. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria welcomed the expansion, with National Publicity Secretary and Public Relations Officer Chinedu Ukadike noting that it addresses challenges like financial hold-ups for marketers and improves cash flow by reducing the time funds are tied up. This move is expected to alleviate financial and logistical pressures on marketers and contribute to lower prices for consumers, especially in areas far from the refinery where transportation costs are significant.
