Federal Government pledges to strengthen democracy and national unity ahead of Democracy Day

This assurance was conveyed in a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, following a special Juma’at prayer. The minister stated that the prayer service offered an opportunity for Nigerians to seek divine guidance and reflect on citizens' roles in sustaining peace, stability, and development. Idris emphasized that Nigeria's progress, unity, and stability require good governance, prayers, support, and active participation from all citizens.

Democracy Day serves as an occasion to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey and honor those who sacrificed for the restoration of democratic rule, specifically mentioning Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. The annual observance also celebrates the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic institutions and the commitment of citizens to constitutional governance, marking 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, the Federal Government is dedicated to deepening democracy and fostering national cohesion.

Idris urged Nigerians to embrace unity, peaceful coexistence, and responsible citizenship, working together for the country's progress and rejecting division to build a stronger, more prosperous
