Federal Government adds 780MVA to Lagos power capacity with eight new transformers

These projects aim to enhance electricity delivery to homes, businesses, and industries throughout the state. The installations include two 60MVA transformers at Apapa, two 100MVA transformers at Ijora, a 100MVA transformer at Alausa, and a 300MVA transformer along with two 60MVA transformers at the Lekki Transmission Substation. These additions contribute 540MVA at the 132kV level, capable of wheeling 432MW, and 300MVA at the 330kV level, transmitting an additional 240MW.

Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, stated that these interventions are part of the government's efforts to remove electricity constraints and foster economic growth. The Lekki substation's capacity has doubled, increasing from 300MVA to 600MVA at the 330/132kV level and from 120MVA to 240MVA at the 132/33kV level. The project also introduced nine new 33kV feeders to improve bulk power delivery to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company network.

At the Alausa Transmission Substation, a new 100MVA, 132/33kV transformer was commissioned, raising the total capacity from 135MVA to 205MVA, which will improve electricity supply to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.
