House committee issues final summons to education minister over TVET program documents
The House of Representatives Committee on Polytechnic and Higher Technical Education has directed the Federal Ministry of Education to submit all documents related to the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training TVET program by August 18, 2026. The committee also issued a final summons for the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, to appear before it on September 17, 2026. This decision followed an investigative hearing where lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction with the minister's repeated failure to appear or send a representative despite multiple invitations since January 30, 2025. Committee Chairman Kayode Laguda stated that the committee had sent several correspondences requesting information on the TVET program's implementation. Some committee members, like Rabiu Yusuf and Bayo Adepoju, criticized the minister's absence as disrespectful and an affront to parliament, with Yusuf proposing a vote of no confidence. However, other lawmakers, including Paul Kalejaiye, urged caution and suggested giving the minister one final opportunity.
