Benue Governor Alia to establish three military units in Sankera axis
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia announced plans to establish three military operational units in the Sankera axis of the state to enhance security and improve threat response. The governor also donated 30 motorcycles to security agencies in Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo local government areas for patrols and rapid response. These announcements were made during a town hall meeting in Katsina-Ala with stakeholders from the Sankera political bloc. The military units will be stationed at Agu in Katsina-Ala, Anyiin in Logo, and Azendeshi in Ukum. Governor Alia also outlined plans for a new dam with a projected capacity of 460 megawatts to provide water and support electricity generation. Addressing concerns about ranching, he assured residents that his administration would not establish any ranches without the people's consent, emphasizing that no land would be ceded to pastoralists during his tenure. These measures come amid longstanding tensions over land use, herder-farmer relations, and insecurity in Benue, particularly in the Sankera axis which has faced recurring security challenges. The town hall meetings are part of a statewide tour to thank All Progressives Congress members for their support and to engage with stakeholders across the state's 11 federal constituencies.
