Egypt's tourist arrivals rise 5% since January, minister discusses Matrouh development

Fathy made these remarks during a meeting with tourism investors in Matrouh Governorate, where discussions focused on investment opportunities and developing the governorate’s tourism assets to attract more visitors. The minister emphasized the importance of developing Matrouh’s tourism sites and land, including building new hotels to increase accommodation capacity. He also addressed challenges faced by investors and explored solutions.

Fathy outlined the ministry’s strategy to promote Egypt’s diverse offerings, authentic visitor experiences, and growing luxury tourism, noting Matrouh’s potential as a leading luxury destination with distinctive cultural and lifestyle experiences. He highlighted the Bedouin community in Matrouh as an authentic cultural asset for new tourism products. Plans include launching an Olive Harvest Festival in September, which could be integrated into tourism programs for North Coast visitors.

Fathy also mentioned Egypt's successful bid to host the US Tour Operators Association’s annual Board of Directors meeting in April 2027, an event expected to boost inbound tourism, particularly from the US market.
