Minister emphasizes civil society and private sector partnership for sustainable energy transition
The Ministry of Local Development and Environment participated in a roundtable discussion on "Civil Society and the Just Energy Transition: Towards Higher Efficiency and More Sustainable Consumption." The event, held on August 29, 2026, included Dr. Saber Othman, Assistant Minister for Sustainability and Social Responsibility, alongside representatives from government agencies, civil society organizations, the private sector, universities, research centers, and experts in energy, climate, and sustainable development. The discussion focused on supporting sustainable and efficient energy systems, expanding renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, exploring green finance, and strengthening civil society's role in climate action. Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, highlighted civil society organizations as key partners due to their direct communication with citizens and understanding of local community needs. She stressed their importance in raising awareness, promoting sustainable energy culture, supporting green initiatives, and building capacity. Dr. Awad explained that a just energy transition is crucial for sustainable development, encompassing clean energy expansion, efficiency, conservation, and local community participation to balance environmental, economic, and social aspects.
