Egypt discusses plans for integrated data center and AI hub with US consortium
Egypt is in discussions with Heka Data and a US consortium of data center developers to establish an integrated hub for hyperscale data centers and artificial intelligence. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced that the proposed project was discussed during a meeting between Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi and a delegation from Heka Data, led by Chairman Ahmed El-Hefny, along with representatives from the US consortium. The discussions covered the project's preliminary scope, size, implementation phases, and potential investment and technology opportunities, as well as procedures for its establishment. The project aims to support the development of data centers, cloud computing, AI, and digital services in Egypt and the region, creating new investment and employment opportunities. Minister Hindi highlighted Egypt's strategic location, digital infrastructure, including fiber-optic networks and submarine cables, and its growing pool of specialized ICT talent. He emphasized Egypt's interest in expanding international partnerships and attracting investments for technology transfer and localization.
