Egypt prioritizes water and wastewater projects in 2026/27 investment plan

This was discussed in a meeting between Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom and Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa El-Menshawy. El-Menshawy emphasized the high priority of water and wastewater projects due to their direct impact on citizen services, noting ongoing upgrades and expansions of networks and treatment plants, and the extension of sanitation projects to targeted villages. Rostom highlighted the importance of maximizing economic and social returns from public investments and improving project management to ensure timely completion.

The meeting also covered the use of Egypt’s Planning System and the Information Infrastructure Center for monitoring project implementation through digital tools, providing updated information on project locations and completion rates. Rostom stated that urban development is a key driver of economic growth, improving living standards and stimulating economic activities and employment. Efforts to improve coordination and technology use in monitoring public investments were also reviewed to enhance implementation efficiency.
