Egypt's mental health law outlines penalties for violations in patient care

Egypt's Mental Health Care Law establishes penalties for individuals who interfere with the treatment of mentally ill patients. Article 46 of the law specifies imprisonment for up to six months and/or a fine not exceeding LE 3,000 for several offenses. These include intentionally enabling the escape of a patient undergoing involuntary admission or treatment, obstructing inspections by mental health councils, refusing to provide required information or providing false information to these councils, and falsely reporting that someone has a mental illness. The law aims to protect the rights and safety of mental health patients and prevent them from harm, while also penalizing those who violate these regulations.
