Egypt's foreign reserves reach record $56.29 billion in July

This figure surpasses $56 billion for the first time. Preliminary data from the Central Bank of Egypt indicates a rise of approximately $1.22 billion during July, up from $55.07 billion in June. The growth was driven by stronger foreign-currency holdings, which increased to $38.7 billion from $37.85 billion in June and $33.91 billion in May.

Gold reserves also saw an increase to about $17.14 billion, from $16.8 billion the previous month, supported by a roughly 1% rise in global gold prices during July. The Central Bank's gold holdings remained stable at approximately 4.169 million ounces. This sustained growth in foreign reserves is expected to boost international confidence in the Egyptian economy and support prospects for an improved sovereign credit rating.

Egypt's foreign reserves consist of assets such as gold, Special Drawing Rights with the International Monetary Fund, and a mix of major currencies including the US dollar, euro, British pound, Japanese yen, and Chinese yuan. These reserves are crucial for financing essential imports, fulfilling external debt obligations, and safeguarding the economy during crises or unexpected situations, especially when foreign-currency revenues from key sectors fluctuate.
