Egypt's Cabinet reviews coastal protection projects against climate change impacts

These projects aim to safeguard economic, social, and environmental resources, earning international recognition for building regional resilience and supporting sustainable development. The World Bank estimates that climate risks could lead to cumulative lost tourism revenue of LE 82 billion to LE 106 billion by 2060. To counter this, coastal protection measures have been implemented across 120 kilometers in governorates including Alexandria, Damietta, and Port Said.

A key initiative, the "Project to Enhance Adaptation to Climate Change in the North Coast and Nile Delta," has installed 69 kilometers of protective barriers. Additionally, the "Alexandria Coastal Protection Project" is 76% complete. These efforts reclaim land, protect assets, attract investment, stimulate tourism, support fisheries by reducing pollution, and protect black sand deposits.

Socially, they protect lives and property, create jobs, and raise incomes. Environmentally, they reduce marine pollution, improve public health, and enhance aquatic habitats. The United Nations and the World Bank Group have commended Egypt's proactive stance, including its joint project with the United Nations Development Programme and the Green Climate Fund, and its Integrated Coastal Zone Management Strategy.
