Egypt secures AFDB grants for five desalination plants

These facilities, planned across four governorates, are projected to increase water availability by 525,000 cubic meters per day and will be developed through public-private partnerships. The project is part of Egypt's Nexus of Water, Food and Energy NWFE program, aiming to expand access to desalinated water and enhance the country's water security. The African Water Facility will provide the first grant of €500,000 for technical studies, while the Middle Income Countries Technical Assistance Fund will provide a second grant of 280,000 Units of Account.

This funding will support environmental and social impact assessments and capacity-building programs for workers in Egypt's water sector, preparing the project for implementation and supporting the availability of desalinated water for various uses.
