Arsenal signs Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes for 拢75 million
Premier League champions Arsenal have announced the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes on a four-year contract, with an option for an additional year. The deal for the Brazil international midfielder is reportedly worth around 拢75 million $101.16 million. Guimaraes expressed his excitement for a new challenge at Arsenal, stating he felt a need for it and believes being an Arsenal player will be an exciting experience. He joined Newcastle from Olympique Lyonnais in January 2022, becoming a key player and captaining the team to League Cup success in 2025. Guimaraes' arrival is seen as a significant move for Arsenal as they aim to retain their Premier League title and strengthen their European challenge. Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta highlighted Guimaraes' versatility as both a defensive and box-to-box midfielder, noting his ability to contribute goals and assists. His addition is expected to enhance Arsenal's tactical flexibility and increase internal competitiveness, joining a midfield that includes Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, and Martin Odegaard. This signing follows the departures of key players Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, and manager Eddie Howe from Newcastle. Arsenal will begin their new campaign at home against Coventry City on August 21.
