Egyptian Intelligence Chief meets Palestinian Authority delegation to discuss national unity and West Bank developments
The Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Hassan Rashad, met with a high-level Palestinian Authority delegation, including the Vice President of Palestine, the President of the Palestinian National Council, and the Head of Palestinian Intelligence. The meeting, held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Cairo, focused on fostering Palestinian national reconciliation and unity, discussing developments in the West Bank, and preparing for upcoming Palestinian elections. Both sides agreed on unifying national efforts to address challenges facing the Palestinian cause. Separately, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke with the Palestinian Vice President, condemning Israel鈥檚 expansion of settlement activities, escalating settler violence, and violations in East Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt鈥檚 rejection of the settlement project in the E1 area, warning it could divide the West Bank, isolate East Jerusalem, and undermine the prospect of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The call also covered efforts to complete the first phase of US President Donald Trump鈥檚 peace plan.
