Egyptian government developing strategic scenarios through 2030, including worst-case planning
Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly announced that the Egyptian government is developing strategic scenarios extending through 2030, which include a worst-case plan to address prolonged war and regional instability. Madbouly stated that the government has established a strict ceiling for external debt and aims to steadily reduce debt levels annually, noting a $6.5 billion reduction in external debt over the past three years. He emphasized that while diverse viewpoints are considered, state operations adhere to specific limitations and regulations. The Prime Minister also firmly asserted that Egypt's sovereign assets are not subject to discussion or exchange, as they belong to the Egyptian people. Addressing recent reports, Dr. Madbouly clarified that Hassan Heikal is not a full-time advisor to the Prime Minister, but rather a member of the Economic Advisory Committee, which intentionally includes government critics. He rejected Heikal's proposal for a Suez Canal swap, reiterating that the waterway is a non-negotiable sovereign asset vital to national security.
