Egypt and China strengthen cooperation in maritime transport and shipbuilding

This visit aims to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, building on seven decades of relations in sectors like infrastructure, maritime transport, and industrial localization. As part of these efforts, Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir, recently oversaw the delivery of two new vessels, "Wadi El Nil" and "Wadi El Qamar," from China's New Hantong Shipyard. These KAMSARMAX vessels, each with an 82,000-ton capacity, increase the Egyptian National Shipping Company's fleet to 16 ships.

The Ministry's strategic plan is to expand the merchant fleet to 40 vessels by 2030, aiming to transport 30 million tons annually. This strategy involves strengthening the Egyptian merchant fleet, connecting it to global maritime routes, and modernizing Egyptian ports. Cooperation with China includes programs for constructing five modern vessels for the National Shipping Company and discussions about establishing a specialized shipyard for ship repair in Egypt.
