
NBET, Lagos lead bond borrowers in first half of 2026
NBET Finance Company Plc, the Lagos State Government, Access Bank Plc, and UAC of Nigeria Plc were the top bond borrowers in the first half of 2026. Other significant bond issuers included Champion Breweries Plc, Paras Energy Funding SPV Plc, Veritasi Homes & Properties Plc, Nigeria Real Estate Investment Trust, Sunbeth Global Concepts Limited, and Daraju Industries Limited. TeleAfrica Communications Limited, Accion Microfinance Bank Limited, SKLD Integrated Services Limited, Sycamore Integrated Solutions Limited, and Miskay Boutique International also issued bonds. An analysis of listings on the FMDQ Securities Exchange and the Nigerian Exchange revealed that issuers raised hundreds of billions of naira across various sectors, despite high capital costs. Nigeria's largest corporate and government-backed borrowers paid coupon rates up to 20 percent to secure long-term funds, reflecting the high borrowing costs due to elevated interest rates. These funds were used for refinancing existing obligations, financing expansion projects, funding infrastructure, and strengthening working capital, with coupon rates ranging from 15.50 percent to 20.00 percent.
