Rigathi Gachagua claims 18 guns, over 3,000 bullets found at UDA MP鈥檚 home
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has made allegations regarding the killing of Mt Elgon parliamentary aspirant Nathan Masai Wasama. Gachagua accused Mt Elgon MP Fred Chesebe Kapondi of being linked to Wasama's death, which occurred on the night of Thursday, August 6, at his home in Tukuit, Cheptais, Bungoma county. Wasama, 61, was a former councillor for Chesikaki Ward and was preparing to contest the Mt Elgon parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. Speaking in Kajiado on Wednesday, August 12, Gachagua claimed that security officials, including Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI boss Mohamed Amin, initially attempted to shield the alleged killer. Gachagua stated that after he publicly raised the matter and increased pressure, authorities acted. He claimed that a search of MP Kapondi's residence uncovered 18 firearms and over 3,000 bullets, and eight youths were also found there. Gachagua questioned how government-owned guns and bullets could have ended up at the MP's residence and be used to kill Kenyans, urging the DCI not to shield Kapondi and demanding his arrest if investigations establish his involvement.
