COTU treasurer general Albert Njeru dies after a short illness
Albert Njeru Obed, the treasurer general of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions Kenya COTU K and general secretary of the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals, and Allied Workers KUDHEIHA, has died after a short illness. COTU K secretary general Dr. Francis Atwoli announced Njeru's passing on Saturday, August 29, describing the loss as immense for the labor movement in Kenya and internationally. Atwoli paid tribute to Njeru as a principled trade unionist dedicated to workers' welfare, adding that he had lost "a brother, a loyal friend, and a distinguished champion of workers' rights." Trade union members across Kenya mourned Njeru, remembering him as a mentor, a guiding force, and a leader with a big heart who fought for workers' rights.
