Senator Seriake Dickson reunites with former Alliance for Democracy leaders after 27 years
Senator Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, reunited with former leaders and founding members of the defunct Alliance for Democracy AD after 27 years. The reunion, held on Saturday, included Chief Michael Odurinde, a former Senior Special Adviser to the late Pa Ayo Adebanjo. Dickson, who served as a founding State Chairman and National Legal Adviser of the AD, stated the gathering was an opportunity for former colleagues to reconnect, rebuild networks, and reflect on Nigeria’s Fourth Republic. He emphasized that the reunion was not for partisan politics or a possible alliance between the defunct AD and the NDC. Professor Udenta Udenta, a former National Secretary of the AD, also clarified that the reunion was not about reviving the defunct party or forming an immediate political alliance. Udenta noted that while the AD no longer exists as a political party, many of its founding members remain active in Nigeria’s political space. He contrasted the AD's ideological foundation with the All Progressives Congress, stating the AD was a civic-minded and ideologically grounded party, while the APC was a special-purpose political vehicle. Udenta ruled out any immediate coalition between former AD members and the National Democratic Congress, reiterating that the reunion was a gathering of old colleagues to honor sacrifices and reflect on Nigeria's democracy.
